How these Denver Broncos and the 'play-dough' QB can stop the Chiefs' reign.

NFL 2025 season: Week six
Real-time updates includes text commentary for the weekend matchups on various channels, beginning with Denver Broncos v New York Jets at Tottenham (kicking off at 2 PM BST). Additionally, audio coverage is available through select stations covering another key matchup (from 21:00 BST).
It's week six of the football calendar , following last week's discussion about two top teams being possible championship contenders, they both lost their unbeaten records.
Notable during those contests was the number of penalties both conceded. The Eagles did so at crucial times so they kind of defeated themselves after leading by two touchdowns entering the final quarter versus the Denver Broncos, who play overseas this Sunday.
However it proved positive to see that Denver's QB Bo Nix was able to overcome the shortfall and then lead three scoring drives on three possessions during the final period, to win the victory by four points.
Denver have the top defender in cornerback their star corner. They are first in red zone defence, whereas Philadelphia lead the league in scoring near the end zone, yet Denver prevailed in that battle.
They had effective strategies in terms of simulated pressure. They weren't always rushing extra pass rushers but they could plug two linebackers in the interior then drop them out and dispatch a nickel from the outside.
Early on of the season, we said on a program how the Broncos might emerge as the current year's surprise contenders. They ended the previous year strongly and did a good job of building upon that.
Could Denver be this season's underdog story?
Recently acquired TE their tight end has stepped up big while new running back their rusher is a guy they believe in. He's currently fifth league-wide in ground gains (402) as well as tied for fourth for rushing touchdowns (4).
It's impressive how the coach the Broncos' leader has "RUN IT!" at the top on his call sheet.
That shows that Denver represent a squad aiming to run first, because you can do a lot based on that approach. It reduces opposing rushes and maintains in favourable situations.
It's also helped QB the young passer, who entered the NFL as a first-round selection in the prior draft, throwing 29 TDs – second only to Justin Herbert in rookie records (31 back in 2020).
Other elite QBs have powerful arms to pass all over, but they don't move in the same way that Nix has. He boasts incredible arm talent, which is different, and he's highly agile.
His assets include his movement, the capacity to pass while moving, and using varied release points to deliver throws as he moves out of the pocket, the bootlegs. He is able to deliver that layered pass across the middle or over the corner.
As a rookie QB, at 25, he displays great composure in the pocket and isn't bothered by extra rushers. He tries to avoid a sack as much as possible and can pass under pressure. He possesses a high football IQ and remains very decisive.
If you consistently run the ball it eats up time and makes the defence to stay in play extended periods, and when you've got a mobile QB the defense must defend the area vertically side to side. It can be draining.
The quarterback has pushed back with the coach during games sometimes and it seems Payton likes that attitude, seeing him as such a competitor. I think it's exciting for him to coach a young quarterback who's similar to moldable clay. The coach can truly build something up how he wants to shape him. I believe it's a unique opportunity for him.
The head coach owns a Super Bowl and has passed Bill Parcells in all-time victories (173 - tied 14th overall). He has witnessed everything. In my opinion the achievements Denver are experiencing on offence is mostly due to his guidance, his schemes, his game sense – and the pairing with the QB helps make him into who he is.
There's no better a better guy guiding you, to help you through some of the tougher situations and boost confidence.
I have faith in the Broncos' defense, in Bo Nix's tenacity and composure. But are they good enough to go against a top squad at its best? Because that wasn't a Super Bowl performance by the Eagles in their last game.
Currently, it's unlikely the Broncos are elite. They're working above average, which is a good place to be in the AFC West. The key is to continue this trajectory.
They're really good at embracing their forte, that is the ground game, and this is precisely what they should do against the Jets at Tottenham. It's going to be the JK Dobbins show, essentially.
New York have allowed 140 rushing yards each contest (among the worst), five ground scores this season (in the bottom ten), and they're the sole squad without a win any game.
Ever since the NFL started recording turnovers in 1933, the Jets are the inaugural squad to go without any turnovers in five outings, which is kind of shocking when you think that their new coach was previously defensive co-ordinator at the Detroit Lions.
The Chiefs' QB says the Chiefs have 'already lost too many games' after a recent loss by the Jaguars.
Following the upcoming matchup, Denver face a manageable slate until their bye (in week twelve) - the Giants, Dallas Cowboys, the Texans and the Raiders prior to the Chiefs.
In the AFC West, Kansas City hold a losing record and the Broncos are tied with the Chargers on 3-2 so they could challenge at leading the West.
This hinges on what version Kansas City shows up they meet since Denver {beat|def
