Information Available Regarding the Fatalities of the Bondi Shooting
No fewer than 16 lives perished and in excess of 40 were hurt when assailants fired on a Hanukah gathering at Bondi Beach, an attack Australian police have labeled a act of terrorism.
According to the most recent information, officials have confirmed the number of fatalities stands at 16, which includes one of the suspected gunmen. Furthermore, 42 injured people were taken to medical facilities.
The victims are yet to be formally identified, but investigators think their ages are from 10 and 87 years of age.

Eli Schlanger
London-born rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first victim to be named.
Reportedly a father of five children, he worked as the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and friends spoke of him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How is it possible that a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a relative said.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the arrival of their youngest child in October.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, according to his wife.
She recounted the moments leading up to the shooting, explaining they had been standing together when the shooting began. “He pushed his body up because he wished to be near me,” she recalled.
The couple were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured immense hardship in their youth. They had subsequently moved to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
French authorities have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the victims.
Officially, a senior official declared that France mourned with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This low act is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of hatred against Jews that we must put a stop to,” the statement read.
One Child
A young girl, aged 10 who was taken to the a children's hospital has been confirmed among the fatalities, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
A national of Israel was among those killed during the attack, according to multiple sources referencing the Israeli government.
Those Injured
Of the 42 people taken to hospitals, a significant number remain receiving treatment, with a number in a critical state. Those hurt include two police officers who attended the scene.
A wounded man is a bystander who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the attackers. Hailed as a hero, he sustained gunshot wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. It has been reported he was injured and is receiving treatment in hospital.
Communicating, he recounted the incident as an “utter carnage,” but also noted the response of those who came to assist. He said he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the shooting. He described he listened to “a large number” of gunshots.
“Initially, I believed it was rubber bullets, but it penetrated my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I sustained a gunshot wound. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
