Slot Asserts He Feels Secure and Has The Club's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's expected for questions to be raised about his future following a further heavy defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in twelve games, marking the club's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Dutch league title holders on a difficult night at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received plenty of support from management,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and struggling then it's typical that people question you.”
He continued, “I am OK with my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Conversations with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:
“There's regular dialogue. They assist to the team and to me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular exchanges I sense the belief. However I've not talked to them since this match so far so it remains to be seen.”
Familiar Failings and Squad Reaction
The manager expressed regret over familiar weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, specifically wasted chances and conceding too easily.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his assessment of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a spell of this nature with performances so bad.”
He finished, “However we still have the crest on our shirts. And until it is taken away, we’re always going to fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad back to the top, demonstrate to all once more what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and we have to turn it around.”
