That Gruesome Cartoon Movie Conclusion That Stays With Viewers

Among all the adult-oriented animated films I’ve personally viewed, no other has stuck with me quite like the dread-soaked ending of the explicitly bloody and deeply subversive 2022 movie Unicorn Wars.

In 2015’s, the Spanish filmmaker created a dark, bleak , frequently brutal world that included some tiny , forlorn glimmers of hope.

While Unicorn Wars seems like it originated from an impulse to expand animation further, the filmmaker clarified that it was rather an attempt to express a global, multicultural theme about “the mutual source of every conflict.”

That message is communicated by means of a squad of brightly hued teddy bears , clearly modeled after a popular series of cuddly characters.

Growing up in a society built around militarism and the military-industrial complex, numerous these creatures are consumed by slaughtering unicorns, thanks to a sacred text that tells them they previously were rulers of the woods, until the horned beings drove them out.

Some did not entirely bought into the propaganda, , choose to experiment with substances and engage sexually in the forest.

In contrast to their cuddly equivalents, these colorful critters have visible sexual organs and definite sex drives.

For a certain especially vicious, pessimistic creature, the bear named Bluey, the battle against unicorns becomes a road to power — and specifically to authority over his more tender, kinder brother the character Tubby.

Bluey acts as a tormentor , an apparent psychopath , and when fear overcomes his unit and claims his fellow soldiers individually, he seizes more and more control for himself, via progressively bloody, damaging approaches.

At the same time, the unicorns are experiencing their own terror, in the form of a growing, harmful creature in their forest.

“At the beginning, it seems like a humorous movie,” the director commented. “Yet it evolves into a more serious and melancholic film. And in the finale, it’s a horror film.”

The Unicorn Wars begins resembling one of the more quirky movies by a renowned animator, which find a wicked pleasure in letting drawn beings curse, engage in violence, or sex each other up.

Subsequently it becomes closer to a darker work from the same artist, with increasingly visual gore and a noticeable link to genuine suffering of war.

Ultimately, it is a complete theatrical horror bloodbath.

The terror which makes this a perfect Halloween viewing starts a lot earlier than indicated.

Unicorn Wars is ideal for the most dedicated lovers of violence, for lovers of graphic films who want to view a movie they have not seen on-screen before, and are able to withstand a narrative which delivers no restraint.

See it in a dimly lit space free from interruptions, and the finale will burrow deep within you and stay with you.
