The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh installment, confirmed by the BBC.

An upcoming six-part series written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, according to the production team.

Vicky McClure shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Her co-star remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the main trio will be reuniting together soon."

The previous series concluded in 2021 with a finale that attracted over 17 million audience members. Rumors about a potential return have been circulating ever since, but official word only arrived recently.

Fresh Obstacles for AC-12

The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, according to the announcement.

Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings remain working to combat corruption within the law enforcement.

Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."

New Character and Complex Case

A new character, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of criminal networks, is accused of misusing his authority to act as a offender.

Series Legacy

The drama launched in 2012 and became one of the most popular TV dramas of the last decade, featuring notable actors such as Thandiwe Newton.

The BBC haven't revealed when the upcoming series will premiere.

The conclusion of season six brought the extended plot about the search for criminal mastermind known as "the mysterious H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the moment there were no plans for additional seasons.

Nevertheless, the corporation confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
