The Red Devils Set to Sign German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are finalising completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with six months left on her contract, is known as a prolific goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.

Departure from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the German club’s supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move have now been completed.

Consistent Goal Threat to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent on-pitch successes include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a three-and-a-half-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since joining in 2023.

On the midfielder's extension, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to control and dictate play from central areas.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
