The Showrunner Reveals He Has an Idea of How Pluribus Will Conclude... Currently.

The acclaimed writer-producer did not foresee that his new science-fiction series would emerge as a massive hit. “I am so grateful to the audience,” he remarks. “I was surprised by the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me thrilled beyond words.”

As the debut season of the hit program wrapping up—and a second season greenlit and underway—the writers' room reflected on the fan response and whether it will influence the storyline of Pluribus.

About the Incredible Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get sidetracked by the constant speculation and online debates surrounding Pluribus. He is making a conscious effort to avoid both.

“It feels like constantly eating your favorite dessert and being tickled to death,” he says. “It's wonderful, but I learn of it from others, and that's on purpose. Not once have I Googled myself, nor do I ever want to. It's quite the opposite. It's a bottomless pit I know I would fall into and then I'd be living in squalor from the hardware store and I'd never leave my living room.”

In spite of Gilligan’s best intentions, there’s it's impossible to ignore the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The best he and his team can do is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“It is not our goal to change the plot,” says writer and executive producer Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not impacted by online forums.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan adds.

A Pressing Query: Has Vince Gilligan Know the Ending of Pluribus?

Given that the creative staff are not listening by public opinion, does that mean they have already decided how Pluribus will finally conclude? In short yes… with some caveats.

“We've developed some compelling concepts about the ultimate destination,” he states. “yet we stand ready to discard a good idea for a more brilliant plan. This approach has served us in good stead on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we get a better idea and I imagine we will be doing that.”

Alternatively, if plans fall through, Gordon Smith has a humorous idea to serve as a last resort.

“I constantly suggest that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll reveal the snow globe and the characters are inside it,” he says humorously, “but no one is buying it.”

Of course, why not reference the classics?

“I'd love for Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” he jokes.

Pluribus can be watched on Apple TV+.
